Johnson & Johnson announced the impending retirement of Executive Vice President (EVP) Jennifer Taubert, with Tom Cavanaugh to succeed her. Cavanaugh’s full title, as was Taubert’s, will be EVP, Worldwide Chairman, Innovative Medicine. Following a transition this month, Cavanaugh joins the Johnson & Johnson Executive Committee Sept. 1, 2026.

Johnson & Johnson EVP History

Tom Cavanaugh joined Johnson & Johnson in 2017 and currently serves as Company Group Chairman, North America, Innovative Medicine. Previously, he held senior leadership positions in oncology, immunology, and global commercial strategy, enhancing nearly three decades of biopharmaceutical experience. Before coming to Johnson & Johnson, Cavanaugh spent nearly 15 years at Celgene, serving the United States and Spain.

Johnson & Johnson Chairman and CEO Joaquin Duato said Cavanaugh will help to continue advancing a pipeline of “transformative” medicines. Duato cited Cavanaugh’s “deep understanding of our business, proven track record of growth, and focus on developing people.”

Meanwhile, Taubert concludes a tenure of more than two decades at Johnson & Johnson. In that time, the company’s annual revenue for its Innovative Medicine business grew past $60 billion. Also during this period, she was recognized by Fortune’s Most Powerful Women list for 10 consecutive years.

“Jennifer has made an extraordinary impact on patients, our business, and generations of leaders across our company,” Duato said. “Her vision, leadership, unwavering commitment to healthcare innovation, and passion for talent development helped define an era of growth.”

As Cavanaugh takes over, Johnson & Johnson says it is looking to his record of “authentic leadership.” This, the company says, will further unite its teams around a shared purpose and demonstrate a commitment to developing talent.
